Katie McDonnell grew up in Galway City in
Ireland. She interned at Starc Studios where
she worked with Johnny McEvoy, members of
the Dubliners and of the Chieftains. From
there she went to Powerplay Studios in
Zurich, Switzerland where she worked with
the group Wet Wet Wet as a sound assistant,
recording two songs including their hit U.K.
single Goodnight Girl. In Germany Katie did
location sound on feature films and worked
at Digital Images DVD Studios.
Katie then headed to Boston to study at the
Berklee College of Music. After Berklee she
was accepted to Tufts University in Medford
where she attained a degree in Sociology
with a minor in Communications. Katie
McDonnell continued to write music and hone
her stage presence, and soon, “Katie McD”
was born. In 2002 she organized a 20-day
American tour for the Irish band Charis,
appearing as their opening act to
considerable acclaim in the press and
several TV appearances. Katie has opened for
Ellis Paul, Steve Wall and Mundy. She has
played events such as The Winchester Arts
Festival and Symphony Hall in Boston. In
2004 she was picked up by an agent and by a
record label: Passion Records. Katie’s first
Passion Records release is titled, “I Know
You Know,” and is currently being played on
180 stations nationwide.
